We had a fun time at last Friday’s Grand Re-Opening Party for the San Francisco SPCA Adoption Center. As most know, at Jill Milan we have a fondness for animals: we do not use any animal-derived materials in our products (no leather, fur, etc.), and we support non-profit animal welfare organizations. And we have a special fondness for San Francisco’s SPCA because it was there we adopted our beautiful Maine Coon, Haley.

The expansion of the adoption center increases its capacity and enables it to help more than 6,000 animals find homes each year. The new adoption center features an indoor dog park, San Francisco-themed cat condos, and interactive technology designed to better help visitors meet their perfect pet. We toured the facility and tried out the touch screens which are stationed at each condo – clean, comfortable rooms where dogs and cats spend their days until they are adopted. Visitors just tap the touchscreen outside the condo, select one of the animals’ photos and read the cat’s or dog’s history. Nice use of technology.

Friday’s event was very festive. The party featured food trucks, music and cocktails at the hosted bar (we in particular enjoyed the “Salty Kitty”). Event sponsors included IDEXX Laboratories, Subaru – which had its new Subaru XV Crosstrek on display – Zipcar, Zoetis and 7x7.

The San Francisco SPCA does wonderful work. If you have room in your life for a pet, please consider adopting from them or another reputable shelter. And visit SF SPCA online at www.sfspca.org/get-involved/donate to make a donation of any size. It is a very worthy organization.
